Energy efficiency ‘becoming a greater priority’ for UK homeowners

The vast majority of house hunters in the UK are placing high importance on the energy efficiency of any properties they view. This Is Money shared research conducted by Bloomberg Intelligence, which found that 88% of people surveyed described the energy efficiency of a property as “important” or “very important”.

Whether you are currently house hunting, or are simply thinking about what improvements you can make to your property in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole in 2023, energy efficiency is likely to be on your mind.

The UK government has been supporting households through the winter with payments towards energy bills. However, these are due to come to an end in April 2023 and there is no indication that there are plans to extend the scheme into next winter, even though energy prices remain high.

This means that 2023 is the perfect time to consider how you can make your home more energy efficient, thereby reducing your energy usage ahead of next winter.

Here at Bournemouth Constructions, we understand the importance of having a warm, light and efficient home, and we will make recommendations about how you can make your property more energy efficient when you are carrying out any renovation works.

Among the top features that homeowners are looking for, according to This Is Money, are double glazed windows, good insulation and a modern, energy efficient boiler.

If you are considering putting your home on the market in the coming months and moving elsewhere, it could still be worth improving the energy efficiency of your home, with many people who are house hunting stating that they ideally want a property with an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of A or B.

Around one-fifth of UK homeowners said they wouldn’t even consider buying a property with an EPC rating lower than C, providing a strong incentive to improve the energy efficiency of any property you are considering selling.

There are many opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of a property when you are carrying out renovations that may not appear to be directly related to the energy performance of your home.

For example, fitting a new roof on a property in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole presents an opportunity to improve the insulation in your loft, as does having a loft conversion.

If you are having an extension, meanwhile, you could update your glazing at the same time as having new windows and/or patio doors fitted, as well as making sure that the way you heat and light your new space is as efficient as possible.

We understand the need to make all of our homes comfortable and safe places to live and we know that energy efficiency is on many people’s minds. When you contact us for a quote for your home improvement project, we will be more than happy to discuss how you can improve the energy efficiency of your property at the same time.

Our aim is to make every house a home, so we will work with you to make sure that your home meets all of your needs.
