Home improvements that will lower your energy bills

October has been incredibly mild in the UK this year, which has no doubt helped many of us to lower our energy bills by using our heating less than we might have expected based on previous autumns and winters.

However, as the Gaurdian recently noted, while we have consistently experienced above-average temperatures throughout October, this is set to change in November with a return to colder weather.

With energy prices rising and warnings over future energy costs as well, it’s understandable if you’re looking for ways to reduce the amount of energy you need to use in your home as we move into winter.

Here at Bournemouth Constructions we understand this challenge and we do everything we can to make all of the projects we work on as environmentally friendly as possible. We will certainly support you to carry out a range of projects designed to improve your energy efficiency at home.

As an article for the Evening Standard explained, there are several options when it comes to improving the energy efficiency of your property in Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch.

At the top of the list is looking for ways you can generate your own energy from renewable sources. Solar panels are a popular option and the cost of installing such panels on your property has fallen considerably over the years, making it a much more accessible option than it ever has been.

Improving your home’s insulation is another must if you want it to be more energy efficient. Insulating walls and ceilings, as well as ensuring that your windows are double glazed and free from draughts, are among the steps you can take here.

In fact, draught proofing in particular could save you a lot of wasted energy on your heating given that the average UK home can lose up to 30% of its heat through leaky windows alone!

If you’re carrying out a more extensive renovation project, you may also want to consider the type of heating system you’re installing. Underfloor heating is a good option, not only because it is a great way to keep the parts of your home that you’re spending most time in warm, but also because it often uses up to 30% less energy than radiator heating systems do.

This is partly because underfloor heating is often a zoned system, which means you can adjust the temperature in specific parts of your home and save energy by not heating the rooms in your home that you’re not using.

You can also add smart controls to your heating system, giving you even greater levels of control.

Many of our clients want to do all they can to make more environmentally conscious choices when it comes to our home renovation and construction projects. Our experienced team of craftsmen in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch are here to support you with every aspect of your project, and advise you on steps you can take that are good for the planet as well as good for your wallet by lowering your energy consumption.
