Top renovation projects to consider ahead of autumn

The weather has definitely turned and it’s feeling more autumnal here in Bournemouth, and that means you may be looking at how you can make your home feel more cosy as we head into winter and those colder, darker days.

Here at Bournemouth Constructions, we are happy to assist with home refurbishment projects at any time of the year. Of course, there are naturally some projects that are better suited to the typically drier weather of summer, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of options for renovating your property at this time of year too.

House Beautiful recently shared some suggestions of top autumn renovation projects, with the one at the top of the list creating a family boot room. You may already have a front porch that would benefit from an update, or perhaps your home doesn’t have this handy extra entryway and you’d like to add one.

Either way, it’s a great opportunity to revamp the way into your home and help to keep it tidy and clean as the wetter weather arrives. Depending on the space you have available, you could create a seating area for putting on and taking off wet and muddy boots, as well as space to hang coats, and even small cupboards for storing other shoes, umbrellas or even dog treats.

If you’re living in Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch, this kind of space is equally useful in the summer as the winter, when you are likely to be heading home sandy from the beach.

Another suggestion that could be a lovely autumn refurbishment project is to create a vinyl room (if you’re into music) or a small home library if books are more to your taste. Either is a great way to make use of a box room and create a cosy bolthole where you can escape for some downtime.

You might want to have bespoke storage constructed for a room like this, which we would be more than happy to help you with. Our team of expert craftsmen will be able to bring your vision to life, working with you to design the layout of the room before constructing all the necessary storage.

Of course, among the most popular home improvement projects at present are those which make homes more energy efficient, which is unsurprising given the rising cost of energy bills in the UK.

However, a survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and YouGov recently found that as many as two in five UK homeowners are putting off projects to retrofit their property with the likes of new insulation, or even solar panels or air source heat pumps, due to the rising cost of living, Your Money reported.

While this is understandable in many ways, it’s also important to remember that any money you spend on improving the energy efficiency of your property will come back to you via reduced energy bills. We recently shared the top eco-friendly home improvements with you, which included fitting LED lighting and having solar panels installed.

Whatever renovation project you’re considering for your property in Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch this autumn, know that we are here and ready to support you however you need. We can help with every stage of a home renovation, from design and scoping to carrying out the work to an incredibly high standard.
