Would you rather move or improve your home in Bournemouth?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us ended up looking at our homes through fresh eyes. Spending so much time in them meant we became painfully aware of any shortcomings we saw, but also incredibly appreciative of the spaces in our homes that worked well for us.

With the property market closed down for months at a time, it was little surprise that many people turned to home improvements rather than looking for somewhere new to live. But even now, when the lockdowns are long behind us, it seems many people in Bournemouth, Poole and elsewhere in the UK would prefer to improve rather than move.

In fact, a survey shared by Mortgage Strategy recently revealed that as many as one in ten homeowners plan to renovations on their property in Bournemouth or elsewhere, rather than moving. This is largely due to the rising cost of living.

Rising interest rates on mortgages, underpinned by the base rate set by the Bank of England, are also behind many homeowners’ decisions to stay put and make the most of their current abode.

In fact, in March of this year, the base rate increased to 4.25%, up from the 4% it had previously been set at. This is a far cry from the 0.25% the base rate stood at as recently as December 2021.

Among the most popular home improvement projects for those opting to make changes to their abodes are laying new carpet or flooring (33%), fitting a new kitchen (30%) and installing a new bathroom (28%).

Among the most popular home improvement projects for those opting to make changes to their abodes are laying new carpet or flooring (33%), fitting a new kitchen (30%) and installing a new bathroom (28%).

If any of these projects are on your radar, our friendly and experienced team of master craftsmen at Bournemouth Constructions is ready and waiting to help. We have extensive experience of kitchen renovations in Poole and Bournemouth, as well as of bathroom refurbishments.

We also help homeowners design their ideal living spaces, which can involve fitting underfloor heating as part of a larger renovation project. The survey also found more homeowners are focusing on improvements that will boost the energy efficiency of their properties. This includes draught proofing, installing solar panels and making use of air-source or ground-source heat pumps.

With energy bills increasing and the government support for households ending in April, it’s little wonder many of us are exploring ways to make our homes as energy efficient as possible.

It is often most cost effective to carry out such work when you are undertaking a larger renovation project, as it can be relatively simple to make energy-efficient swaps during a refurbishment rather than retrofitting them later.

Our team of experts are always happy to discuss your project and your requirements, and we can make recommendations of ways in which you can improve the energy efficiency of your property while carrying out refurbishments. Contact us today to find out more about the work we do and to receive a no-obligation quote for your home improvement project in Dorset.
